Cable - Wireless CITIUSTM Triple Play Solution on Indian CATV Cable Looking to ride the next wave in the telecommunication industry? Bet your future on broadband and entrust it to Midas Communication Technologies. Midas, the pioneer in developing indigenous state-of-the art and cost-effective Broadband Access Solutions, now introduces CitiusTM, (Cable Wireless Internet Triple-play Unified System) which uses innovative and standards based techniques to provide triple-play services for your subscribers. True to its name, Citius (Latin for speed) offers speed in two ways you had never imagined before. Citius promises you the fastest roll-out in the scramble for providing broadband services and it assures high-speed Internet access to your customers. It also enables you to provide toll-quality voice and IP-based video services to make it a complete and powerful triple-play solution. All this by using the ubiquitous, Indian overhead CATV network and Midas’ very own Broadband corDECT. So, if you are looking to keep your pace ahead of competition, it is time you know more about Citius. Citius is an innovative and standards based triple-play solution. It uses DOCSIS for providing downlink internet on CATV cable and BB-corDECT for providing uplink Internet on wireless. The uplink and downlink are seamlessly integrated by the Indoor Unit (Head-end equipment) of CITIUS. It uses standard Ethernet (IP) interface for connectivity to the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) & for IP-based video-services and E1 (R2/V5/SS7) interface to the Telecom operators. CITIUS offers 40 Mbps downstream bandwidth per CATV Channel and 20-40 Mbps upstream bandwidth with Always-ON Internet. CITIUS enables operators to offer bandwidths from 32kbps to to 2 Mbps per user at upstream, downstream ratios of 1:3 and 1:2. CITIUS has provisions to scale-up downstream and upsteam bandwidths as the bandwidth requirements increase. CITIUS enable operators to offer IP-based interactive video services including private broadcast channels. It offers toll-quality voice with its voice-ready system, eliminating the need for additional investment on IP phones and Soft-switches. Normal telephones can be used with CITIUS. CITIUS can be provided to homes, professionals, SOHOs and enterprises. It can enable PC-less browsing and thin-client based computing. Citius is thus the logical choice that provides an unparalleled combination of high performance triple play services, cost and first mover advantages in the highly competitive broadband market. CITIUS – System Architecture
CITIUS consists of an Indoor Unit, Base Stations and Subscriber Terminals. The indoor unit and base stations are connected using copper or dark fiber. CITIUS subscriber terminals are either Single Subscriber Terminals (commonly referred as CITIUS modems) or Subscriber Distribution Terminals.

CITIUS Indoor Unit integrates the wireless uplink and cable downlink and offers a standard Ethernet/IP interface to ISP and Video-Services and standard E1 (R2/V5/SS7) interface to TELCO. The CITIUS Indoor unit is capable of handling 40Mbps downlink bandwidth on every CATV channel and 20-40 Mbps uplink bandwidth on wireless. The Indoor unit has connectivity to keyboard and monitor, for local management. Multiple CITIUS systems can also be managed through an EMS from a central place.
CITIUS Base Station connects to indoor unit on Copper or Dark Fiber. When CITIUS base station connects on copper, Base Station does not require local power. It derives power from copper. When it connects on Dark Fiber, it requires local power. Each CITIUS Base Station can cater from 25 to 50 users based on traffic dimensioning. The coverage area of a base station depends on the height of the base station. Coverage can be upto 10kms.
CITIUS
Subscriber Terminals can be Single Subscriber Units or Multi-Subscriber
Units. Single Subscriber units are referred to as CITIUS modems. Multi-Subscriber
Units are called Subscriber Distribution Terminals.
CITIUS Modem has Ethernet interface to connect to PC, RJ11 interface to Telephone, CAT5 cable interface to Antenna. It has in-built battery backup to last for several hours in case of power failures. The Cable at home is Split and one-end connected to the modem, while the other end is connected to Television as usual. The CITIUS modem is capable of rate-limiting, while the management of the rate-limiting is done from CITIUS indoor unit.
CITIUS Subs
Subcriber
Distribution Terminal
is a Distribution Panel Box for CATV Cable. The CATV cable is terminated
at the SDT. The SDT gives out Ethernet connections, which are then taken
inside the homes. The SDT is also connected to the antenna. With the SDT,
there is no CPE owned by the Subscriber. The SDT is capable of rate-limiting,
while the management of the rate-limiting is done from CITIUS indoor unit.
The current version of SDT provides 3 ethernet and 1 voice connection. Bandwidth is allocated to each and every Subscriber in a terminal and managed independently. Individual IP address is provided for every Subscriber in the terminal. It is ensured that No Collisions happen between subscribers in a terminal. All Broadcasts originating from subscribers are filtered out. Traffic is not exposed between subscribers in a Terminal. Hence there are no security issues between subscribers inside a Terminal
