Dr. Timothy A. Gonsalves

Academic Background

Dr. Gonsalves,a founding member of TeNeT received a B.Tech. (1976) from IIT-Madras, an M.S. (1979) from Rice University, Houston, TX, and a Ph.D (1986) from Stanford University, CA, all in Electrical Engineering.

His doctoral thesis dealt with the use of LANs for voice and data traffic. After receiving his doctorate, he joined the Computer Science Department, WPI, Worcester, MA as an Assistant Professor. Since 1989, he has been with the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT Madras, India, where he is currently a Professor.

Research Interests Tricks of My Trade
  • Design and Implementation of integrated computer and telecom networking systems
  • LAN switching
  • IP Switching
  • DECT-based wireless Networks
  • Network Management
  • CTI and operating systems for embedded systems

The main focus of his work is the development of technology and other infrastructure needed for the widespread use of Internet, and fostering many software development activities throughout India.
